Wanna Buy Penny Hardaway’s 1965 Ford Mustang?

Found February 18, 2011 on Sports Collectors Daily:

Penny Hardaway had plenty of money after being drafted out of Memphis back in the early 1990s.  Enough, apparently, to fix up at least one classic car.  A 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback he once owned is now up for bid on eBay.

1965 Ford Mustang Fastback Penny HardawayAccording to the current owner, Desert Auto Sport of Phoenix, Hardaway spent $30,000 with 310 Motoring out of Los Angeles to get the car the way he wanted it.  It’s currently being offered for $28, 995 with offers also being taken.

The vehicle still has the original motor and 4-speed manual transmission but has been repainted silver.

1965 Mustang seatsA massive sound system is included but Desert Auto says the ‘65 Mustang’s best feature is the interior.  Hardaway, it seems, put wall-t0-wall white leather and blue suede or trim throughout the entire car.

Why?

1965 Mustang shoesLong-time hoop fans will remember the Lil’ Penny TV ads featuring the voice of Chris Rock that touted Nike shoes Hardaway wore.  The white/blue motif in the 1965 Mustang reflects the color, 1965 Mustang interiorstyle and logo of the sneakers from back in the day.

Hardaway played for the  Orlando Magic, the Phoenix Suns, and finished his career with Miami Heat who  released him in late 2007.

The 1965 Mustang auction runs until the first week of March.
